Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show Announces Date Change for 2017 Event

Organisers of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) announced new dates for the 58th annual event: Wednesday 1st November through Sunday 5th November 2017.

Historically, the show has opened on the first Thursday of November and closed the following Monday. The 2017 event was previously scheduled to open on Thursday, November 2 and run through Monday, November 6. Exhibitor contracts do not need to be changed, organisers said.

Owned and presented by the Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF) and managed and produced by Show Management, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show draws hundreds of leading marine businesses from around the world and thousands of boating enthusiasts who come to browse, buy and learn about what’s new on the water. 

“We decided to change the days of show after listening to strong industry feedback supporting an earlier event,” said Charles McCurdy, Chief Executive of Informa’s Global Exhibitions division, which purchased Show Management in March. “We worked diligently with all stakeholders involved, including exhibitors, venues, local hoteliers and the MIASF, to ensure a seamless transition and build upon the strength of this annual event in the Yachting Capital of the Word.”

Show organisers plan to keep the new Wednesday-through-Sunday date pattern in future years.

“Over the past 57 years, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show has evolved from a local boat show into a truly international exhibition,” said Phil Purcell, CEO/President of MIASF. “In today’s world of financial transactions, it is no longer necessary to use Monday as a banking day, and with more frequent client visits and exhibitor opportunities on Wednesday, we think it’s in the best interest of both exhibitors and consumers to activate the Wednesday of show week and deactivate Monday,” he concluded.

The largest in-water boat show in the world, FLIBS takes place at seven locations connected by a network of water and land transportation. Show locations included the Bahia Mar Fort Lauderdale Beach Hotel & Yachting Center, the Hall of Fame Marina, Las Olas Municipal Marina, Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina, Sails Marina, Hyatt Regency Pier 66 Marina, and the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center.

Porto Mirabello – Discover the Megayacht Quay and Poet’s Lounge

The updated Megayacht Quay and all the facilities are available for megayacht owners, guests and crew. Members receive state of the art entry badges to gain access through the private security gates, and Porto Mirabello is in the process of obtaining ISPS certification – International Ship and Port Facilities Security Code, a certification that is currently attributed to very few marinas in Italy. There are technical staff available 24 hours a day to assist with docking and unmooring and there is no need for additional manoeuvring to refuel, this can be done directly from berth using the two high-capacity fuelling stations within the Megayacht Quay.

Fighter pilot endorses superyacht charity Cogs4Cancer as epic 2017 route is confirmed

A fighter pilot has endorsed the superyacht charity Cogs4Cancer as the 2017 route is confirmed, with a selfie taken at over 30,000 feet above sea level.

The charity has benefited from a number of celebrity endorsements including Rihanna, Sylvester Stallone and Roman Abramovitch since the first endurance cycling challenge four years ago.

C4C has planned the longest route yet for the 2017 ride, starting from the London headquarters of Cancer Research UK and ending in Mediterranean yachting hub Antibes.

This years peloton comprises of a mixture of superyacht captains, senior crew and industry professionals who will start in London, heading across the channel to Caen in northern France and then travelling south via Condeau, Cheverney, St Amend Montrond, Vichy, Le Puy, Vallon Pont D’Arc, Malaucene, Riez before finishing up in Antibes just ten days later.

Cogs 4 Cancer is managed by a group of volunteers who all work within the superyacht industry. 100% of all money raised goes to the designated cancer charities across Europe and the UK, and the volunteers not only put in countless hours planning, preparing and promoting, but also pay for all their own travel and equipment needed to make the cycle rides happen.

All 36 riders needed for the 2017 challenge are confirmed, and the charity asks that any yachting businesses that are interested in supporting this worthwhile cause to email info@cogs4cancer.com to discuss how they would like to participate.

Cogs4Cancer has been going since 2013 and has raised over 700,00 Euros for both Cancer Research UK and local French cancer charities.
