Global Jellyfish Bloom Won’t Ruin Our Ocean Fun!

Is the recent jellyfish bloom a global issue when it comes to enjoying a dip in the ocean?

You may have heard that over the last few weeks, beaches and swim spots in Queensland had to be closed due to 5000+ jellyfish stings being reported in January. However this is not just a problem down under, and this rise in jellyfish numbers is seriously starting to impact owners and guests wanting to take a dip in the ocean, whilst onboard their superyacht.

Jellyfish

The USA and Mediterranean saw numerous beach closures and jellyfish warnings during the summer of 2018. In June, 800 people were stung in a single week by moon jellyfish at beaches in Florida. That same month, 200 people a day were being stung along the Spanish coast, totalling thousands by the end of the summer, and beaches near superyacht destination Palma de Mallorca and sister island Ibiza were closed due to a huge increase in numbers of jellyfish.

Not ideal when you have charter guests wanting to enjoy a leisurely dip without the worry of bothersome sea creatures. What you need is a rapidly actionable solution to keep the smiles on their faces (and tips in your pockets!).

Enter: the most Instagramed superyacht accessory of 2018, the FunAir Beach Club Sea Pool. This inflatable sea pool with extended deck area, loungers for sunbathing and SeaStairs making it easy for guests to get in and out of the water and is a comfortable and safer way for guests to enjoy swimming out in the ocean during their superyacht experience.

MY Loon Beach Club Sea Pool

Launched in partnership with MY Loon in 2018, the Beach Club Sea Pool has received tens of millions of views on Instagram in just a few months due to a combination of design excellence, practicality and fun.

Captains Paul Clarke of MY Loon explained, “We have two charter clients returning just because of the pool. Guests love the additional space it provides to lounge out on the ocean, and the safety of being able to jump straight into the netted pool. The owner even said how amazing it is.”

The pool provides a tightly woven barrier to help keep jellyfish and sea critters out, with an enclosed area to prevent guests from floating away in the current.

As always with FunAir inflatable yacht products the pools can be completely customised to suit your needs and tastes. They offer a variety of pool configurations to fit the back of your swim platform or sit alongside your yacht, and splash pools for the little ones on the ship’s deck.

Sea Stairs can be added to make exiting the water easy and elegant. The addition of Wave Loungers that affix to the surrounding beach club pool deck give guests onboard the option of that ‘chilling out by the pool’ experience, and a great place to keep an eye on the kids. All Sea Pools come with swimmer assist grab handles and ropes, and each includes a FunAir electric pump.

The Sea Pool sizes and weights vary depending on the design and materials selected for your inflatable pool. Typical sea pools are around 5Mx5M and packed dimensions are provided so you best understand how to store your product. The Beach Club Sea Pool on MY Loon takes around 20 minutes to set up and take down.

FunAir also have a standard 3m x 4m Pool in their Quickship range, meaning it ships globally within 48 hours. Once it arrives, it can be setup and ready for use in 15 minutes and comes with a 3-year warranty.

On the exhibitor front, there is a “Loyal Exhibitor” scheme in place to offer well-deserved privileges to companies who have attended the show for at least 10 years prior to 2016 and at least once from 2011 to 2016. So, expect to see a number of familiar names and faces showcasing their products and services. It has also been confirmed that BWA Yachting will be the official sponsor for the third consecutive year.

The Chef’s Competition will return this year with the challenge of preparing a vegetarian meal. In just 30 minutes, the participants will be preparing their best lacto vegetarian starters and desserts and a full vegan main course. We can’t wait to see what they come up with! Running in parallel will be a Table Service & Wine Pairing competition for the interior crew. For the second successive year the competition will be co-sponsored by Yachts International magazine and World Wine Services.

“All Hands On Deck” will also return for 2019, allowing the deck crew to get involved with some friendly competition. The premise is simple: the yacht is spending the whole day out at anchor, what original and ingenious ways can the crew find to keep the charter guests entertained? May the most creative team win!
