60th Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show a resounding success

The Fort Lauderdale International Boat show celebrated its 60th anniversary in suitable style with the largest show yet attracting some 1500 boats and 1200 exhibitors.

The show saw the unveiling of the new Superyacht Village, a 3.5 acre site dedicated to superyachts and the superyacht lifestyle. Sarrah Macey, CEO of Global Superyacht Marketing took a walk around the the new area and had this to say: “I’m very impressed with the new Superyacht Village. The quality of the yachts, exhibition spaces and social facilities are excellent, and I look forward to seeing how this area continues to grow.”

“One concern voiced by the industry before the show was that the size of the yachts on display at Bahia Mar would be significantly reduced, making this area less attractive to visitors. However, in true FLIBS style, Bahia Mar continues to have a superb range of superyachts, sports fishing vessels and smaller boats for the leisure market, along with an outstanding range of services and suppliers exhibiting.”

During the show Majesty 140, a 140 foot luxury superyacht from Dubai, was crowned the Best of Show by NBC Sports Network. An esteemed panel of judges agreed that the yacht featured the most innovative new boat model design on display. The yacht will feature in a one hour special on the NBS Sports Network in December.

The unique culinary competition included Chefs Andrew Siebert, Alex Forsythe, and Jarle Saupstad and Danny Davies of MY Excellence who was eventually named as the competition winner. Guests enjoyed a selection of premium spirits including specialty Tito’s Handmade Vodka cocktails, Maker’s Mark whiskey creations, Whispering Angel Rosé, as well as a bubbly welcome drink from Moet & Chandon. Adding to the excitement, The Wheeland Brothers hosted a live concert followed by a DJ, which set the sounds for the dockside festivities.  The evening benefitted Mission of Hope and the ONE Bahamas Fund, two organisations focussed on supporting relief efforts and rebuilding in the Bahamas following the devastating hit of Hurricane Dorian.

Monaco Yacht Show 2019

The 2019 Monaco Yacht Show in numbers

The 2019 Monaco Yacht Show ran from 25 to 28 September 2019, and featured the most impressive fleet of superyachts in its history and attracted a record-breaking number of exhibitors.

The feedback from the exhibitors has been pragmatic and positive. The MYS private concierge service invited over 200 VIP visitors, the majority of which came from the United States, Russia, England, China and India to visit the various superyachts up for sale or charter. Exhibitors noted a definite trend in visitor profile: a broader range of countries, a wider age bracket, and serious intentions to buy or charter.

The MYS unveiled some of the latest superyacht projects, technologies and joint ventures, thus confirming its status as a major annual event in the world of luxury yachting. The show is a true catalyst for future trends in the yachting world, as has proved itself to be a must visit event in the calendars of future owners and yachting professionals, a fact confirmed by the increase in attendance this year (31,565 visitors compared to 30,400 in 2018).

The most impressive fleet of superyachts ever exhibited at Monaco Yacht Show

This years event showcased 125 superyachts with an estimated total worth of around €4 billion*, the most impressive fleet of vessels ever to be presented in the shows 29 year history. The superyacht exhibition included 44 new models and 14 megayachts over 70 metres in length – including 2 over 100m! The average price for a motoryacht exhibited at the show reached €37.8 million this year. This year saw a tendency towards “greener” yachts and enhanced performance in terms of technology, speed and design.

600 exhibitors

A large portion of Port Hercule was organised into different themed areas occupied by 600 exhibitors including yacht builders, brokers and designers. Tender and water toy manufacturers exhibited 55 pieces of equipment, the majority of which were being presented for the very first time. The yacht show’s Car Deck displayed 30 collector or custom-built cars and motorbikes, while the Parvis Piscine tent was dedicated to luxury products and services. Its fully revamped Upper Deck Lounge, reserved for the show’s partners from the luxury industry, spanned over 2 floors.

Prize-winning superyachts

Four prizes were awarded at the 6th Monaco Yacht Show Superyacht Awards ceremony. The winners comprised of three vessels. Attila (64m, Sanlorenzo) received the MYS/RINA Award for its design, which complies with the environmental standards established by RINA, the Italian company in charge of classifying superyachts. TIS, a brand new 111-metre yacht by German shipyard Lürssen, received the MYS Interior Design Award. Excellence (80m, Abeking & Rasmussen) won two prizes: the MYS Exterior Design Award, and the ceremony’s most prestigious award, the MYS Finest New Superyacht Award.

Monaco Yacht Summit

Immediately before the Superyacht Awards ceremony, the MYS hosted the 4th edition of the Monaco Yacht Summit. A range of yachting-related subjects were discussed by some 40 participants interested in purchasing or chartering a yacht in the near future.

All eyes are now fixed on next years event which will run from 23-26 September 2020 and will see the show celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Nautica Assistance Ocean's Lovers

Pledge support to the Ocean’s Lovers movement at MYBA Charter Show

Eco-Warrior Crew – This is for you!

Ocean’s Lovers is a new project from the passionate team at Nautica Assistance, a popular yacht agency based in Sardinia.

Launching at MYBA Charter Show with an environmentally conscious event on Thursday 2nd May Captains and crew will be invited to pledge their support in keeping Sardinian oceans, beaches and marine life safe from plastics, human damage and pollution.

Invitations printed on recycled paper will be handed out during the show and the team at Nautica Assistance will be serving a range of delicious Sardinian treats including local beers and wine served in compostable glasses along with breads, salami and cheese.

Captains and crew will be asked to sign the pledge whilst enjoying a traditional Sardinian aperitif and will be gifted an Ocean’s Lovers t-shirt and badge to say thank you.

As one of Europe’s most beautiful and unique locations, the Ocean’s Lovers movement is about having an active attitude and a strong intention to commit to protecting the coastline and seas of Sardinia and sister island Corsica.

One of the main environmental issues in Sardinia is that visitors continually remove the fine white sand from their idyllic beaches to take home with them. Although they are lucky so far and the beaches have not yet been permanently scarred by excessive plastic waste and pollution, Nautica Assistance know that the problems are a global issue and need to be addressed now.

Federica Tillocca, a yacht agent at NA explained, “A few days ago a mother whale was found in Cala Romantica, one of the most beautiful bays in Porto Cervo (Sardinia). She was dead, with a little baby inside her, and her stomach full of plastic. If you think about our beautiful and crystalline waters, and then you put such a terrible episode in the same picture, it makes you realise quite how bad the situation is.

“Just because our ocean view is currently an unspoiled masterpiece, doesn’t mean the global environmental problems will just disappear by itself. We decided here at Nautica Assistance that we have to do something. At the very least be part of all the people of the world saying #nomore and taking real actions.

“For example if we can encourage our yachts to stop buying plastic bottles and choose eco friendly alternatives instead, then the manufacturers will have to use organic and bio degradable plastic alternatives made of natural materials, and this will make a big impact on our oceans. “

Visit Nautica Assistance at booth 58 on Thursday 2nd May anytime from 3pm – 6.30pm at the MYBA Charter Show at OneOcean Port Vell in Barcelona and sign the Ocean’s Lovers pledge, making your promise to protect the environment we live and play in.
