60th Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show a resounding success

The Fort Lauderdale International Boat show celebrated its 60th anniversary in suitable style with the largest show yet attracting some 1500 boats and 1200 exhibitors.

The show saw the unveiling of the new Superyacht Village, a 3.5 acre site dedicated to superyachts and the superyacht lifestyle. Sarrah Macey, CEO of Global Superyacht Marketing took a walk around the the new area and had this to say: “I’m very impressed with the new Superyacht Village. The quality of the yachts, exhibition spaces and social facilities are excellent, and I look forward to seeing how this area continues to grow.”

“One concern voiced by the industry before the show was that the size of the yachts on display at Bahia Mar would be significantly reduced, making this area less attractive to visitors. However, in true FLIBS style, Bahia Mar continues to have a superb range of superyachts, sports fishing vessels and smaller boats for the leisure market, along with an outstanding range of services and suppliers exhibiting.”

An esteemed panel of judges agreed that the yacht featured the most innovative new boat model design on display. The yacht will feature in a one hour special on the NBS Sports Network in December.

Four of the world’s leading yacht chefs battled it out to be named Best Yacht Chef at the FLIBS 2nd annual Sunset Soiree and Yacht Chef Competition. The unique culinary competition included Chefs Andrew Siebert, Alex Forsythe, and Jarle Saupstad and Danny Davies of MY Excellence who was eventually named as the competition winner. Guests enjoyed a selection of premium spirits including specialty Tito’s Handmade Vodka cocktails, Maker’s Mark whiskey creations, Whispering Angel Rosé, as well as a bubbly welcome drink from Moet & Chandon. Adding to the excitement, The Wheeland Brothers hosted a live concert followed by a DJ, which set the sounds for the dockside festivities.  The evening benefitted Mission of Hope and the ONE Bahamas Fund, two organisations focussed on supporting relief efforts and rebuilding in the Bahamas following the devastating hit of Hurricane Dorian.

One of the most noteworthy changes to the 2018 show, set to take place October 31 to November 4, is the redesign and repositioning of the main entrance several hundred yards to the north end of the Bahia Mar Hotel and Marina property, along Seabreeze Boulevard, just south of the International Swimming Hall of Fame and Marina. The brand new, professionally designed entrance will feature a plaza-like configuration, efficient security and a VIP and exhibitor gate. FunAir joins the United States Superyacht Association with premier space in new area of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

FunAir have recently joined the USSA and have the premier space in the new American section of the Superyacht Pavilion. American born FunAir can be found at the entrance to the new American section and opposite the USSA Lounge at booth 801.

The leading superyacht inflatables manufacturer will be showcasing a new lounger design, the popular Climbing Wall and in partnership with Oceanemo, the Sports Utility Yacht, a range of 3D printed replica FunAir products on a mesmerising digital display table.

Having recently launched the all new FunAir Playground and Junior BigAir Blob, FunAir will be meeting with Owners and Captains at FLIBS to get feedback on new products and discuss the next big launch in inflatable yacht toys.

A redesign of a firm family favourite, the FunAir Playground has a slide, climbing frame and leaving off point for a smaller version of the very popular BigAir Blob, which like its big brother has stabilising outriggers that stop it turning in the ocean, and an inflatable stand-off that keeps it in place. Friends and siblings can jump from the playground straight onto the blob and launch their partners into the air.

The Playground can be tethered to the yacht out at anchor, and also works as the perfect accessory for families when it is secured in shallower waters on beach days.

Standing 3.5m tall when inflated, the playground has non-slip material on the steps, comfort grip climbing holds and ultra slick vinyl. This eliminates the need for a coversheet and reduces weight and pack size. The Junior Big Air Blob is also made from commercial grade 1000 denier PVC with FR and UV ratings. Total set up time is just 30 minutes.

Bluewater Crew Training and The Triton have partnered to develop a seminar series for the 2018 Refit Show, January 10-11, 2018, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. This seminar series is designed not only to provide an overview of the process, but to provide practical and tangible guidance at each stage of the process.”

FunAir Announces Partnership with Sealed Air Repairs Mobile Service Centre for Superyacht Inflatables

Florida
As the global leader in manufacturing inflatable yacht toys, FunAir continue to innovate and ahead of the winter season have announced a partnership with Sealed Air Repairs who opened a Florida based mobile service centre for all inflatable yacht toys earlier this year.

SAR has a mobile service centre that will cover the Floridian coastline offering to pick up your toys and make sure they are clean, dry and ready to inflate the fun, before dropping them back to the yacht. For larger jobs and when working on the biggest inflatables Sealed Air Repairs will collect the product and take it back to their headquarters where the toys can be laid out, inspected and worked on in a clean and secure environment.

The service centers offer a great solution for busy charter yachts who don’t have time to fully clean and maintain their toys, or superyachts about to have a refit who want to make sure they are professionally cleaned, dried, packed and stored before yard time.

In this first season SAR have reported that there have been a surprising number of simple maintenance tasks on the books. It seems there are many yachts that have favourite inflatable yacht toys that have sat in storage because they had lost a couple of D rings, or the guide ropes had gone missing. People just didn’t know where to go to get this servicing, parts and maintenance work carried out; but also didn’t want to throw away a product that had given them so much enjoyment.

John Courtney, MD of yachting at FunAir explained, “We are pleased to announce that Sealed Air Repairs will be our official service centre for the Fort Lauderdale and East coast yachting community. Their online parts store is one of a kind and very convenient for people who have misplaced accessories over the years. Their servicing is of the highest quality and we are happy to leave any maintenance tasks that the yachts prefer to outsource, in the capable hands of SAR.”

Mark Anastasia, founder of SAR commented, “ We are excited to be the first mobile service center for yacht toys and have already had an overwhelming response in this first season. From cleaning and servicing top of the range inflatables to make sure they last for years to come, to repairing some of the lower quality items that have found their way into the superyacht sphere, we have been extremely busy since our launch. “

Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show Announces Date Change for 2017 Event

Organisers of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) announced new dates for the 58th annual event: Wednesday 1st November through Sunday 5th November 2017.

Historically, the show has opened on the first Thursday of November and closed the following Monday. The 2017 event was previously scheduled to open on Thursday, November 2 and run through Monday, November 6. Exhibitor contracts do not need to be changed, organisers said.

Owned and presented by the Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF) and managed and produced by Show Management, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show draws hundreds of leading marine businesses from around the world and thousands of boating enthusiasts who come to browse, buy and learn about what’s new on the water.

“We decided to change the days of show after listening to strong industry feedback supporting an earlier event,” said Charles McCurdy, Chief Executive of Informa’s Global Exhibitions division, which purchased Show Management in March. “We worked diligently with all stakeholders involved, including exhibitors, venues, local hoteliers and the MIASF, to ensure a seamless transition and build upon the strength of this annual event in the Yachting Capital of the Word.”

Show organisers plan to keep the new Wednesday-through-Sunday date pattern in future years.

“Over the past 57 years, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show has evolved from a local boat show into a truly international exhibition,” said Phil Purcell, CEO/President of MIASF. “In today’s world of financial transactions, it is no longer necessary to use Monday as a banking day, and with more frequent client visits and exhibitor opportunities on Wednesday, we think it’s in the best interest of both exhibitors and consumers to activate the Wednesday of show week and deactivate Monday,” he concluded.

The largest in-water boat show in the world, FLIBS takes place at seven locations connected by a network of water and land transportation. Show locations included the Bahia Mar Fort Lauderdale Beach Hotel & Yachting Center, the Hall of Fame Marina, Las Olas Municipal Marina, Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina, Sails Marina, Hyatt Regency Pier 66 Marina, and the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center.

With a strategic plan to expand its Global Exhibitions business in the United States, London-based Informa currently delivers 200 industry events annually, including the Monaco Yacht Show. The company is listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE: INF.L) and is a member of the FTSE 100.

Monaco Yacht Show Organisation buys Fort Lauderdale, Yachts Miami and West Palm Beach Yacht Shows

Transaction brings together two of the most prestigious brands in global yacht shows: Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show and Monaco Yacht Show.

The organisation behind Monaco Yacht Show, Informa’s Global Exhibitions division, today announced the purchase of Yachting Promotions Inc. (“YPI”), the operator of some of the largest yachting and boat shows in the US, for $133 million. The acquisition brings three of the world’s largest in-water boat shows – the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Yachts Miami Beach and the Palm Beach International Boat Show – into the Informa Exhibitions portfolio along with the St. Petersburg Power and Sailboat Show and Suncoast Boat Show in Sarasota.

The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, which draws 100,000 attendees, 1,300 exhibitors and more than 1,200 boats each November, is the largest of its kind in the world and complements Informa Exhibition’s Monaco Yacht Show, the world’s leading event dedicated to the superyachting industry.

Charlie McCurdy, CEO, said, “With this acquisition Informa Exhibitions becomes the world’s leading yacht show organizer. Combining the world’s premiere show, based in Europe, with these five shows in North America creates a scale player in this attractive and growing vertical, further strengthening our relationship with leading yacht brokers and builders, providing good opportunities for cross promotion and extending customer relationships across platforms and geographies.”

McCurdy added, “With the addition of these Florida shows, and following the addition of Penton’s exhibitions portfolio in 2016, Informa Exhibitions is now Informa PLC’s largest division by revenue and profit. Acquisitions in key and growing verticals will continue to be part of our growth strategy going forward as we look for events that complement what we are doing within vertical markets we have identified as attractive.”

Efrem “Skip” Zimbalist III, Chairman of Active Interest Media, said, “We can think of no better company than Informa Exhibitions, with its global resources, to focus on the continued growth and success of these excellent boat shows while continuing to exceed the expectations of their exhibitors and attendees.”

Skip Zimbalist will advise Informa Exhibitions in the transition, and the rest of the YPI team will continue with the company as it moves forward.

McCurdy noted that Informa Exhibitions will continue YPI’s active role in the North American boating and maritime industry, including IFBSO, the International Federation of Boat Show Organisers; NACS, the National Association of Consumer Shows; Marine Industries Association of South Florida (Sponsor); Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County (Sponsor); International Yacht Brokers Association (formerly Florida Yacht Brokers Association); NMMA, the National Marine Manufacturers Association; and Sail America.

FunAir launches BigAir Yacht Blob at FLIBS 2016

There’s just no stopping FunAir. Hot on the heels of launching the brand new to market Yacht Joust and Yacht Golf at Monaco Yacht Show, the innovative team behind the worlds most popular yacht inflatables are set to launch a third new product at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show next month.

FunAir BigAir Yacht Blob with man flying high in the air

Up up and away on the FunAIr BigAir Yacht Blob

Most of you will have seen the pictures and videos of the inflatable yacht blobs on social media. Looks like a whole lot of fun, right?

Enter FunAir, who have completely redesigned the new BigAir Yacht Blob. It has stabilising outriggers that stop it turning in the ocean, and an inflatable stand-off that keeps it in place and away from the yacht. Friends can jump from the deck straight onto the blob and launch their partners tens of meters into the air; and should anyone have so much fun that they roll of the back of the blob, the stand-off will make sure they don’t bump into the hull of the yacht.

It turns out that the water blob was first invented in Texas, the home state of FunAir, for Camp Longhorn who used an Army Surplus fuel bladder as a waterfront toy on the lake.

Anyone who has used a blob in the ocean will tell you these amazing toys were not originally designed for tidal water. They turn easily and should really be tethered to the seabed to keep them in place.

FunAir’s BigAir Blob is the first yacht blob specifically designed for yachting and the new features make it the safest option on the market.

To find out more about the new BigAir Blob, Yacht Joust, Yacht Golf or any of the FunAir portfolio, you can stop by the National Marine Suppliers booth 684, in the Superyacht Pavilion at Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, where the FunAir team are once again partnering with their long standing distributor.

Known for innovative partnerships, while you visit the NMS booth you can see a model of FunAir partner Oceanemo, the impressive sports utility superyacht kitted out with unparalleled levels of fun. The model will have 3D printed examples of some of the FunAir portfolio and sits on a 4K digital table.

This exciting news comes on the back of FunAir’s new website with the first click and buy interface for inflatable yacht products. Showcasing both QuickShip and custom inflatable products for yachts, resorts and at-home family fun, the site offers online shopping and promises to quick-ship available products within 24 hours.

Yacht products currently available for QuickShip include, Yacht Slides, Climbing Walls, Yacht Joust, Yacht Golf, Personal Watercraft Docks, Water Mats and Stand Up Paddle Boards.

With distribution partners in Europe, America, Australia and the East, FunAir can send out the QuickShip products in less than 24 hours to captains and owners across the globe.
