Luxury Cars at The Monaco Yacht Show 2018

For the Monaco Yacht Show 2018 the third edition of the Car Deck exhibition is once again set to showcase the very best in tailor-made, luxury cars, customised to the requirements and tastes of their owners, in the same way the superyachts are.

From September 26th to 29th, show visitors, owners and lovers of superyachts and exquisite machinery will have the opportunity to admire a brand-new range of luxury vehicles on display on the Car Deck of the Monaco Yacht Show. This year the MYS has joined forces with manufacturers specializing in tailor-made and custom designed vehicles and hypercars.

BRABUS Classic MB

“The new superyachting clientele is looking for new lifestyle experiences, new sensations to share. When price is not an obstacle to getting what is best the wealthy younger generation seeks more personal experiences that reflect their own identity,” suggests Gaëlle Tallarida, General Manager of the MYS. “Building a big yacht remains the ultimate in made-to-measure. In the same way the Car Deck reflects the superyachting lifestyle with a display of superlatively luxurious vehicles transformed to order according to their owners’ desires.”

Ford GT40

The Card Deck, located on Quai Antoine Ier in Port Hercules, will present a selection of about a dozen cars and a motorbike that are as original as they are exceptional, manufactured in limited editions or as unique prototypes, some of which will be available for test drives by potential buyers.

For its first participation in the Car Deck, the Italian company ARES Design will unveil its superb redesigned two-door Bentley Coupé, based on the four-door Mulsanne 2017 model and built in very small numbers. The new look given to the Coupé by ARES Design involves a total transformation of the bodywork, mainly using hand-worked carbon fibre and aluminium. Prices for this model, for MYS participants, start at € 715,000.

ARES Bentley

Fans of 1960s British motor-cycles will certainly appreciate the ARES Design trial, based on the minimalist style of the latest BMW R nineT, with a sublime vintage look combined with modern performance levels.

ARES Design trial

ARES Design will most probably also showcase the finest version so far of the emblematic Land Rover Defender. A genuine rebuild for this exceptionally robust vehicle that combines a luxury interior with a very high level of performance thanks to a tailor-made turbocharged V8 engine. Prices for this ARES 4×4 built in limited numbers, only 53 to date, start at € 215,000.

ARES Land Rover Defender

This year MYS participants will have the unique opportunity to meet with Alexandre Danton, French automobile designer and artist. Starting with a given model, or even a wreck, Alexandre builds a chassis and bodywork from customized parts, making the vehicle a unique work of art. His company, Danton Art Kustoms, will present two outstanding hot rods: a unique version of the Lamborghini Espada Edition CHD (Super Cars V12) in pure neo-vintage style with an astounding and refined new exterior; and a 1987 Porsche 911 Targa which, with its aggressive aesthetics, flamboyant red paintwork and redesigned racing body, is customized with a Bentley Turbo engine providing exceptional power (400 BHP).

Danton Porsche

Hemmels returns to the Car Deck and will display the finest Mercedes-Benz SL series restorations. Whether it’s the iconic 300SL Gullwing or Roadster, the sporty 190SL or stunning 280SL Pagoda, each car is taken back to its bare metal beginnings. Every component is painstakingly returned to original factory specification, or beyond. In the spotlight too is a new generation of hypercars, including the spectacular Milan Red model. Built by the Austrian motor manufacturer Milan Automotive, the first and only hypercar producer in Austria, Milan Red is at one and the same time a very fast car, a design object and a source of exceptional driving sensations. This luxury vehicle, with a power output of 1,325 HP for a weight of 1,300 kilos, is limited to 99 units at 2 million euros each.

Hemmels luxury cars

For its second participation in the Car Deck, Gentleman Car, the official French dealer for genuine American Shelby cars, will present three prestige models. Hand crafted with total respect for the spirit of the original, the FIA of the Shelby Cobra 289 FIA Continuation Edition series reproduces the characteristics of the race car driven by Dan Gurney in 1963 and 1964 (prices from € 159,000). The Shelby Cobra 427 S / C Continuation is based on a robust chassis built from 4-inch tubes and equipped with a 7-liter Ford V8 engine (prices from € 148,500). The Ford GT40 MKII Continuation is a perfect clone of the car that won at Le Mans in 1966. 90% of the parts are interchangeable with the vintage model! It is also the only vehicle officially authorized to use the GT40 name, as the chassis number testifies (prices from € 218,900).

Luxury car BRABUS-900-Cabrio

BRABUS will show a selection of customized Mercedes models. This German company is the largest specialist in the transformation of Mercedes vehicles and one of the leaders in the development and integration of innovative, functional business multi-media systems for vehicles. This manufacturer is well-known for its tailor-made luxury cars, combining outstanding performance with interior fittings of the highest quality (the models to be displayed will be announced shortly). Alongside its vehicles BRABUS will also be displaying its luxury 11-meter “hyper”-tender, the BRABUS Shadow 800, as part of the Tenders & Toys floating exhibition. Built in partnership with Axopar Boats the tender is distinguished by its use of the latest high-tech components and its thoroughbred exterior design in BRABUS’s distinctive signature color: black. For the first time on the international stage MYS visitors will be able to test the BRABUS Shadow 800 in the water.

A new culinary provider will offer fresh, farm-to-plate fruits and vegetables, sustainable seafood, and natural, organic meats through partnerships with purveyors of locally-sourced, organic and sustainable products.

“Wherever you are in the show, and whether you want to grab a cold drink, a snack or a gourmet meal, we want it to be easy and satisfying,” added Doole.

Porto Mirabello MY Main Stern view

Porto Mirabello, La Spezia – The perfect Mediterranean home port

Luxury superyacht marina Porto Mirabello is the home port for legendary fashion designer Giorgio Armani and his 65 metre MY Main which returned to the port this month and is currently enjoying the hospitality provided by their 7* team. It is also a popular base for the typically transient MY Grace E who extended their stay several times in 2016, and has also returned this month to enjoy the prime location and extensive megayacht services in 2017.

Motor Yacht Main was built by Codecasa in 2008. Mr Armarni designed the elegant megayacht to meet his every need, and purchased a 65 metre berth at Porto Mirabello following his visit to the marina, which is just 22 nautical miles from Codecasa’s Viareggio shipyard. The marina also enjoys close proximity to Idyllic Porto Venere (2NM), high-fashion destination Forte Dei Marmi (48 NM), Monaco (90NM) and Porto Fino (88NM). The excellent levels of security on the recently upgraded Megayacht Quay give high profile owners piece of mind, and they enjoy the calm weather conditions in the sheltered haven of the Gulf of La Spezia, protected by the Tino and Palmaria islands, and a 620 metre breakwater.

Owner of the Marina, Mr Alessandro Menozzi explained, “Porto Mirabello is a perfect home port, set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the location is very central for many of the most alluring destinations in the Mediterranean. Charter yachts can reside in the relaxing, stylish atmosphere of Porto Mirabello, having the reassurance that our dedicated shipyard is available 24 hours a day for any maintenance work or upgrades, and still be in Monaco to pick up guests in just a few hours.

“Our online provisioning service means the yachts can easily order gourmet food, drinks and supplies to be delivered directly to the yacht so they are fully prepared for when the guests embark, and crew tell us they love the dedicated Wellness Centre, swimming pool and variety of bars and restaurants within the marina.”

In July 2016 MY Grace E visited Porto Mirabello for a planned one-day stop. The owner, Captain and crew were so impressed with the services provided by the multilingual concierge and technical teams, they extended their stay by several days to enjoy some of the local activities. Porto Mirabello is just a few minutes from Tuscany and it is possible to play almost any sport and take on any challenge, whilst surrounded by the beauty of Cinque Terre, a UNESCO world heritage site.

Porto Mirabello MY Grace E Flowers

The Concierge are at your disposal and can organise trekking, rafting, kayaking, or canoe races, or book a guide who will take you river trekking, or horse riding. There is also a supercar track and an 18 hole golf course close by with views of the ocean.

MY Grace E returned in September for several days to relax in the stylish Italian marina, enjoying exquisite local food and drinks and refuelling before setting off once more. At the end of the season she returned once again for an extensive stay during October and November to have some maintenance work completed in the Porto Mirabello shipyard.

Porto Mirabello offers a unique combination of an elegant, clean and luxurious marina with top level superyacht services, packaged with the convenience of having a dedicated shipyard on site, and the back up of 80% of the most important Italian shipyards within 22 NM of the port.

LA SPEZIA porto mirabello marina

Superyacht Destination Porto Mirabello in La Spezia – Visit Liguria and Tuscany

Porto Mirabello nestles in the Gulf of Poets, Liguria between San Remo and Viareggio and is the perfect location for private and charter yachts up to 130 metres in the Mediterranean who wish to experience the magic of Italy.

This area of outstanding natural beauty is named the Gulf of Poets because of the host of famous poets who have been inspired by the scenery including Mary Shelly and Byron. Just minutes away from Tuscany, its world famous landscapes, history and influence on high culture, Porto Mirabello is the ideal new destination for yacht owners and guests. Centre for high-fashion Forte Dei Marmi (often called the St Tropez of Italy) is also just a 45 minute drive away.

Linked by a foot bridge to La Spezia, Porto Mirabello is surrounded by forests, streams, hills and valleys, and close to plenty of charming medieval villages to explore including iconic Porto Venere which is just two nautical miles away.

PORTO VENERE close to Porto Mirabello

Porto Venere comprises of three villages, Fezzano, Le Grazie and Porto Venere, and three islands, Palmeria, Tino and Tinetto. Along with Cinque Terre, UNESCO declared the area a world heritage site in 1997. Porto Venere is a typical Ligurian village clinging to the coast. A place to get lost in, while appreciating the beautiful architecture of Doria Castle. Located on a rocky outcrop, the fortress was built in the 14th century and played an important role in the history of the Republic of Genoa. From the castle you can enjoy incredible views of the sea and the ancient church of San Pietro.

You will enter the historical centre of Porto Venere through the Borgo Gate that was built in 1113, while the nearby tower was built in 1161. Walking through the streets of the city centre it often feels as if you had travelled back in time. Like all Cinque Terre, the area should not only be admired but also tasted! The food is simple yet rich in flavour, as are the wines. A favourite local wine Sciacchetra has a golden yellow colour with amber hues, and is made from grapes left to dry in the September sun.

VERNAZZA Cinque Terra near Porto Mirabello

Cinque Terre is made up of five charming villages – Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso. Each village is made up of beautifully coloured, hillside buildings hugging the coast and there are mountain and coastal trails to trek to visit each fishing village.

Each village has a personality of it’s own and is famed for a particular local product from lemons and honey, to exquisite extra virgin olive oil and anchovies! There are 120km of trails through Cinque Terre, so make sure you allow enough time to explore!

Also close by is the village of Tellaro, an ancient fishing village that can be reached by descending the sea paths along the natural terraces. Tellaro was recently declared the most charming village in Italy.

If you are looking to head out of Porto Mirabello for the day, visit the marina’s Concierge who will make all of the arrangements for a variety of experiences in and around La Spezia. Water based activities include kayaking, rafting, canoeing stream jumping, canyoning and river trekking. There is also plenty of mountain biking, tennis, paintballing and orienteering to do on land. The Concierge promise to make sure no crew or guest has a chance of being bored in this unique part of Italy.

Take an exhilarating spin around the Maranello track in a supercar of your choice or go horse riding surrounded by exquisite views. There is also a superb golf course nearby for those who are looking to have a more leisurely experience. www.portomirabello.it/en/concierge/sports/

Apuan Alps marble cave

The Apuan Alps in Tuscany are close by and definitely worth a trip. You will find white marble caves in the mountains and can take a jeep tour to learn more about the famous Carrara marble, which was used to create Michelangelo’s David and the Pantheon in Rome. Visit the Apuan Alps Park and explore the Antro del Corchia Cave in the ‘Empty Mountain’, one of Europe’s biggest cave systems, with nearly 2km of walkways and bridges inside the mountain.

Don’t miss the chance to discover nearby Pietrasanta, often called ‘Little Athens’ with its cosy historical city centre, full of art galleries and an open air museum. Botero, Mitoraj, Folon, Moore, Nall and many other artists from all over the world choose Pietrasanta as a place to create their masterpieces. Relaxing in the main ‘piazzetta’ is a must.

Staying on the coast, you’ll find the beach area of Lido di Camaiore with sandy beaches, great shops and a relaxed atmosphere. A short drive from the beach and you will reach the historical city centre of Camaiore, with this beautiful Abbey and fantastic restaurants in the neighbourhood.

There is a bounty of sights to see, along with a plethora of cultural and sporting activities to do whilst you are moored in Porto Mirabello. Milan is just a 45 minutes helicopter ride away and the marina is perfectly placed as a home port in the Mediterranean for those who also wish to enjoy Monte Carlo, Corsica, Elba Island, Capri, the Amalfi coast, or wonderful Porto Cervo in Sardinia.
