FunAir Loungers beach set up

Unforgettable Beach Days with FunAir at Monaco Yacht Show

In addition to the adrenaline pumping FunAir Yacht Slides, Climbing Walls and other superyacht toys built for action and adventure, FunAir also know exactly how to relax….. In partnership with the beach days theme at the official Captains and Crew Lounge at Monaco Yacht Show this year, FunAir will be launching three new to market products, perfect for an unforgettable superyacht beach experience.

Outside the Lounge on Quay Louis II visitors will be able to find the new Twin Escape floating on the water. Two detachable beach loungers sit on a stable platform that can float out in the shallows to enhance any beach excursion. The Twin Escape is 3.5m x 3m when deployed and comes with their patented Sea Stairs that help you elegantly step right out of the water and onto the relaxing Escape. Perfect for sunbathing, enjoying time with friends, or perhaps a private chat with drinks out on the ocean.

FunAir Twin Escape

If you like to feel the sand between your toes then you can detach the loungers for beach use and pair them with the second new MYS products launch; the Wave Lounger. FunAir have redesigned their superyacht beach lounger and created a unique, ergonomic flow that is stylish, eye-catching and comfortable. The inflatable Wave Loungers take just a couple of minutes to inflate and deflate, and allow crew to pack multiple loungers on even the smallest tender, making beach set up for larger groups quick and easy. The Wave Loungers can be colour customised and have optional luxury fitted covers available through a FunAir partner. They weigh just 10kg and are around 2.2m long and 85cm wide.

FunAir Wave Loungers

For the starfish amongst you the third product launching at MYS gives you even more space to sit back and beach out. The FunAir Daybed is a double width inflatable beach lounger that can accommodate couples in love, a hoard of kids or give those who like to sunbathe in style all the space they need to stretch out and starfish.

FunAir Inflatable Loungers beach set up

The day bed is an easy to lift 17kg and is 230cm long and 158cm wide. Also available in custom colours and with luxury fitted covers. The Wave loungers and Daybed will be on display outside the Captain and Crew Lounge during Monaco Yacht Show on the dock next to the on-water Twin Escape.

Visitors to the show are invited to come and try out the beach set up for themselves and to experience what total beach comfort really feels like. Captains and crew can also chill out on two loungers stationed upstairs in the private crew lounge where they will be complimenting the interior beach themed space.

Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

ENHANCEMENTS PLANNED FOR 59TH ANNUAL FORT LAUDERDALE BOAT SHOW

As the guests arrive at the 59th annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS), an array of changes to form and function will offer a fresh approach to enjoying the largest in-water boat show in the world and an even more successful sales environment for exhibitors.

Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show superyacht on display

One of the most noteworthy changes to the 2018 show, set to take place October 31 to November 4, is the redesign and repositioning of the main entrance several hundred yards to the north end of the Bahia Mar Hotel and Marina property, along Seabreeze Boulevard, just south of the International Swimming Hall of Fame and Marina. The brand new, professionally designed entrance will feature a plaza-like configuration, efficient security and a VIP and exhibitor gate. The previous main entrance will be used for exhibitor move-in, move-out and other show logistics, improving access for both show guests and exhibitors.

“Informa is focused on evaluating the overall show experience and how FLIBS is perceived by people who arrive from many different places and spend time at the show each day,” said Informa U.S. Boat Shows General Manager Andrew Doole. “First impressions are crucial, which is why we are creating a professionally designed, dedicated show entrance with a thoughtful layout and other elements of convenience for guests and exhibitors.”

Varied and easy to obtain food and drinks options are part of the plan, with emphasis on quality and convenience. A new culinary provider will offer fresh, farm-to-plate fruits and vegetables, sustainable seafood, and natural, organic meats through partnerships with purveyors of locally-sourced, organic and sustainable products.

“Wherever you are in the show, and whether you want to grab a cold drink, a snack or a gourmet meal, we want it to be easy and satisfying,” added Doole.

About The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

Owned by the Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF) and produced by Informa, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) is recognized as the largest in-water boat show in the world. FLIBS spans more than three million square-feet of exhibit space across seven waterfront locations that are connected by an intricate network of water and ground transportation services. The five-day show attracts approximately 110,000 attendees and 1,200 exhibitors representing 52 countries with more than 1,500 boats on display each November.

Exploring Tunisia as a Superyacht Destination

Superyachts have been flocking back to the wonderfully exotic Tunisia after the over-cautious travel ban was lifted last year. We were very privileged to be invited for a tour by the Tunisian Ministry of Tourism and are happy to share the beauty of this northern African, French/British speaking country which is a mere 90 minute sail from Sardinia.

view over Sidi Bou said, Tunisia

Tunisia is blessed with several superyacht marinas, including Port Yasmine near Hammamet, Bizerte and Port Marina de Gammarth. They have been a popular destination, welcoming the Mediterrranean superyacht community for many years due to excellent quality duty free fuel, customs and immigration departments who make any paperwork as easy as possible, and as a provisioning stop to take advantage of Tunisia’s world class fresh local produce.

As well as the advantages of being a non-EU country so close to the Mediterranean, Tunisia is a hub of history and culture and makes a fantastic destination for owners and charter guests keen to explore outside the usual yacht spots. French is Tunisia’s second language and all residents are taught French from a very early age, as well as English in more recent years so there won’t be a language barrier with anyone you meet.

Street in Tunisia

Tunisia has a rich cultural heritage having been settled in by the Moors and the Romans. Carthage and its world famous ruins are breathtaking and only 30 minutes or so from popular Hammammet in the north. Hammammet also has fantastic shopping in both traditional souks and new, very modern shopping malls with lots of brands names you know and love.

view of ruins at carthage, Tunisia

The Bardo museum houses rich displays of Tunisian history within the walls of Husseinite palace, as well as an additional contemporary building added on to increase exhibition space. As well as Roman sarcophaguses, Punic jewels and precious cargo from a Roman ship wreck, the museum is home to the largest collection of mosaics in the world. These mosaics are astounding and must be seen in person to fully appreciate the sheer magnitude of work that went into these masterpieces.

Bardo Museum Mosaic

Sidi Bou Said is also very much worthy of a visit. This is the picture perfect, idyllic village you‘ll see in many depictions of Tunisia. Built on a hill over looking a lovely small leisure marina with stunning mountain ranges in view across the bay, this is the place to experience the Tunisian picture you probably have in your mind. Full of boutique restaurants you will be spoiled for choice and we definitely recommend visiting Café Sidi Chebaane for the best views, a great mint tea, and pastries to die for.

Beautiful top view of seaside and cafe terrace in Sidi Bou Said. Tunisia, North Africa

Moving south we start to find places made famous in some very recognizable TV and films. Monty Python’s Life of Brian was filmed in Monastir, in and around a Ribat (castle) that was also a monastery at one point. Whether you are a fan or not, we highly recommend a visit to this beautiful place.

Slightly further south, you will find El Djem and its huge and very well maintained amphitheatre. Registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979 the amphitheatre continues to be a cultural centre with theatre, opera and a range of classical and modern music performed there. The Romans seem to know a lot about building practical and beautiful structures and the ambiance and sound quality in this epic architecture are exquisite.

the Roman Amphitheatre of El Jem Tunisia

A little further south again and its back to film sets from one of the most famous films of all time. Located at a place called Tozeur  you will find the film set for parts of the very first, original Star Wars: A New Hope, and the fictional Tatooine is also named after the real life city Tataouine in Tunisia. Tataouine also appeared in The X-Files – in the end of the The X-Files movie as Foum Tataouine, making this a double movie buff destination!

Town featured in Starwars in the Sahara Desert, Tunisia

While you are in the southern part of the country, at the start of the Sahara desert, you can experience all sorts of desert activities. Night camping, camel riding trips and 4×4 motor cross days are very popular and usually come with a team of local residents who will cook you traditional Tunisian cuisine in stone earth ovens, or you can bring your own provisions if you prefer.

Camel caravan going through the sand dunes in the Sahara Desert, Morocco.

The sublime team at Yacht Services Tunisia are the best superyacht contacts you could have in this area. Founders Kim and Duncan sailed into Tunisia 12 years ago and never left. They know every corner of Tunisian life and can take care of everything you could possible need during your visit. They also have great taste in wine and food so be sure to take advantage of their recommendations.

YS Tunisia have offices in Port Yasmine, Bizerte and Marina Gammarth, have excellent relationships with customs and immigration and can deal with all the paperwork before you even arrive. Then they can arrange for bunkering, provisioning and organise the most fantastic trips to some of Tunisia’s famous places.

Rows of colourful spices piled high in the Tunisian Souk

We particularly like the YS Tunisia ‘Follow Me’ program for yachts that wish to experience everything Tunisia has to offer. They meet you in the northern tip of Tunisia usually in Bizerte, and then follow your yacht along the coast line meeting up with you along the way to take you and your guests on cultural trips, picturesque viewpoints, shopping in the souks, and out to experience the delectable Tunisian foods at the very best restaurants. The same team follows you for the entire trip and is on call to help with anything you might need at a moments notice.

We can’t finish without mentioning the taste sensations on offer. Tunisia doesn’t import very much food at all and are almost self-sufficient. Most foods, herbs and spices are freshly and organically grown in their rich soils. They have excellent, I mean really excellent olive oil and their beef, lamb and chicken is also free range and chemical free. Tunisia is named after the Tuna run and the Med’s finest tuna skirt the coast and end up on the plates of locals and visitors alike.

Le Pirate Restaurant Sidi Bou Said Marina

We love that almost every coastal restaurant has its own little fishing team. Rather than commercial fishermen bringing in the catch of the day, each restaurant goes out in a little boat sand catches the fish they will need. The seas are clean and well stocked throughout Tunisia, and we enjoyed some of the finest fresh fish we have ever tasted. Yacht chefs regularly come and stock up their freezers with meat and fish and save an absolute fortune whilst buying some of the best produce in the world.

We hope you add Tunisia back into your travel itinerates for 2018 and for anything you need at all, we recommend you contact Kim and Duncan at Yacht Services Tunisia by emailing info@ys-tunisia.com, calling +216 98364875 or visiting their website ys-tunisia.com.

The Superyacht Show

Barcelona and One Ocean Port Vell continue to be in the superyacht limelight with the recent announcement of The Superyacht Show hosted by the Large Yacht Brokers Association (LYBRA) to follow straight on from the MYBA Charter Show (23 – 26 April 2018), and the Palma Superyacht Show (27 April – 1 May 2018).

The Large Yacht Brokers Association (LYBRA) has revealed plans for an exciting new superyacht show with a fresh, unique and appealing format. THE SUPERYACHT SHOW will take place from 2-5 May 2018 in OneOcean Port Vell, Barcelona. It will offer buyers and charterers, as well as their brokers and representatives, the opportunity to step on board some of the finest superyachts in the world, in an exclusive and private setting. Complementing the on-water display will be a hand-picked selection of some of the world’s premier luxury products and lifestyle brands.

Traditionally, boat shows have a strong business-to-business element whereby industry professionals come together to trade specialist products and services. These are essential elements for builders and operators, but they’re not conducive to creating a truly “luxury experience” for yacht buyers. THE SUPERYACHT SHOW will be a client-centric showcase that delivers the optimum buyer experience by attracting the highest quality superyachts and yachting companies, the most prestigious sponsors, global luxury brands, and the most discerning visitors. The quayside experience for the ultra-high net worth clients and their representatives is specifically designed to be relaxed, elegant and enjoyable.

Jonathan Beckett, President of LYBRA comments: “Our long-term plans are ambitious but also realistic. The idea of a client-focused show was put forward several years ago and we’ve been working on the details for quite some time. We have a great team in place and while our expectations for the first year are modest, I’m confident we’re laying a very solid foundation for the future. 2018 will see the participation of all our member companies and in 2019 we aim to incorporate a number of top quality shipyards and other exhibitors. Everyone is welcome to visit the show since our ultimate aim is to benefit the clients, brokers and the industry as a whole.”

Eric Blair, Secretary General of LYBRA adds: “The collective fleet of superyachts that LYBRA members represent for sale and charter is hugely significant. Our members are acutely aware of their responsibility to exhibit their client’s vessels at a time and place that is most likely to produce serious enquiries from qualified buyers. Over time, we therefore plan to develop the show into the definitive, pre-summer buying opportunity in the Mediterranean. The LYBRA members have both the ability and desire to bring together a world-class display. Our members’ long-term vision is not simply to create another superyacht show; their vision is to create THE SUPERYACHT SHOW.

The inaugural event will be held in the private marina of OneOcean Port Vell in the heart of Barcelona. Ignacio Erroz, General Manager of OneOcean Port Vell observes: “The luxury world is changing. Affluent clients are now increasingly driven by lifestyle experiences, creativity and individuality. They seek experiences that are inspiring and interesting. OneOcean Port Vell and our beautiful, vibrant city of Barcelona can offer an abundance of incredible things to see and do. We’re delighted to welcome THE SUPERYACHT SHOW and to host a world-class fleet that adds yet another attraction to the myriad wonders of our city.”

A strictly limited number of exhibitors and sponsors are being invited to participate in 2018. If you are interested in participating or would like further information, please visit: www.thesuperyachtshow.com

Miami Beach’s Premier Luxury Yacht Show Receives  New Name and Logo

30th Annual Event Rebranded from Yachts Miami Beach to Miami Yacht Show;

Slated for February 15-19 along Collins Avenue

MIAMI, Fla. (November 15, 2017) – The premier in-water luxury yacht exhibition during Miami’s annual boat show week each February has received a new name and look. Formerly Yachts Miami Beach, the annual event is being rebranded as the Miami Yacht Show on Collins Avenue.

Set to take place from February 15-19 in Miami Beach along Collins Avenue across from the legendary Fontainebleau and Eden Roc hotels, the show, now entering its 30th year, attracts a global audience to a spectacular display of yachts and marine products, including more than 500 new and brokerage yachts and a wide array of the latest marine technology and accessories.

Spanning more than a mile along the Indian Creek Waterway from 41st Street to 54th Street, the extraordinary yacht show covers more than 1.2 million square feet of space. In addition to the amazing display of yachts and accessories, the show features floating cocktail lounges, food and live musical entertainment.

“Like all leading global brands, this show is constantly evolving and adapting to best serve its audience,” said Mary Bender, vice president of marketing for Informa, the show’s producer and co-owner. “The new name and logo were designed to follow suit with our portfolio of boat shows. We worked collaboratively with our stakeholders throughout the process and expect the new brand to be well received in the yachting community.”

A new Miami Yacht Show website will debut this fall at MiamiYachtShow.com, along with the launch of Boat Show Market Place, a new online platform designed to allow attendees to more easily plan their visit to the show and schedule appointments with the exhibitors they most want to see. The new site will be fully optimized for mobile browsing.

The new website builds upon improvements introduced at last year’s boat show, including a new physical look and layout that delivered a more interactive and inviting sales experience and environment for guests and exhibitors. Show organizers also introduced a VIP Experience ticket that offers guests who wish to experience the show in celebrity style access to a floating, air-conditioned lounge with a premium open bar, gourmet food, a dedicated concierge to arrange appointments on board yachts and other special experiences.

In addition to its iconic Collins Avenue location, the Miami Yacht Show also includes an invite-only satellite display of superyachts on Watson Island at the Island Gardens Deep Harbour marina, which can accommodate yachts up to 500 feet. Yacht brokers can arrange transportation for clients between the two show locations.

Two different boat shows take place in Miami and Miami Beach during Presidents’ Day weekend in February. Informa manages and produces the Miami Yacht Show on Collins Avenue and co-owns it with the International Yacht Brokers Association. The event runs concurrently with the Miami International Boat Show, which is owned and operated by the National Marine Manufacturers Association.

Bluewater To Offer Refit Certification at Florida Refit Show

At the Refit Show 2018 Bluewater will offer “Introduction to Yacht Refitting for Yacht Managers, Captains and Crew” seminar series and certification.

Bluewater Crew Training and The Triton have partnered to develop a seminar series for the 2018 Refit Show, January 10-11, 2018, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The two-day “Introduction to Yacht Refitting for Yacht Managers, Captains and Crew” certification program is part of the Refit Show’s conference at the Broward County Convention Center. Industry professionals who complete six of the nine sessions offered will be awarded the new certification by Bluewater Crew Training.

A well-established crew training facility, Bluewater is known for its MCA Master, USCG and RYA Yachtmaster courses in Antibes, Fort Lauderdale and Palma. Bluewater faculty are developing the curriculum for the new certification, which is aimed at improving the skills of captains and crew during yard periods. The Bluewater certification will expand the capabilities and job prospects for those who complete the program. All of Bluewater’s courses are also open to Refit Show attendees who aren’t seeking certification, but who wish to develop their own refit management skills.

“Captains and crew are integral to the refit process in any shipyard,” said Jim Miller, Refit Show director. “Providing them with the communication, management and teamwork skills offered by Bluewater will improve their efficiency, making them more valuable to yacht owners and their representatives.”

Kevin Petrovsky, chief academic officer at Bluewater, said, “The refit process involves a wide variety of expertise and experience that must be well organized and coordinated. This seminar series is designed not only to provide an overview of the process, but to provide practical and tangible guidance at each stage of the process.”

The Bluewater certification seminars available at the Refit Show are: Refit Yards, Legal and Liability Issues for Refits, Trends in Design, Basic Refit Preparation, Teamworking and Communication, Refit Case Studies, Department Responsibilities Before and During Refits, Creating a Refit Planning Guide, and Conflict Resolution.

The 2018 Refit Show will double the size of its exhibit hall and increase its seminar options from 15 to 24. In addition to Bluewater, more educational partners are contributing to the conference program, including American Boatbuilders and Repairers Association, American Boat & Yacht Council, and The Landing School. The Refit Show is also adding more networking events and live product demonstrations.

Refit Show organisers will announce the full seminar series soon. Registration for the Refit Show opens early November.

FunAir Announces Partnership with Sealed Air Repairs

FunAir Announces Partnership with Sealed Air Repairs Mobile Service Centre for Superyacht Inflatables

Florida
As the global leader in manufacturing inflatable yacht toys, FunAir continue to innovate and ahead of the winter season have announced a partnership with Sealed Air Repairs who opened a Florida based mobile service centre for all inflatable yacht toys earlier this year.

SAR has a mobile service centre that will cover the Floridian coastline offering to pick up your toys and make sure they are clean, dry and ready to inflate the fun, before dropping them back to the yacht. For larger jobs and when working on the biggest inflatables Sealed Air Repairs will collect the product and take it back to their headquarters where the toys can be laid out, inspected and worked on in a clean and secure environment.

The service centers offer a great solution for busy charter yachts who don’t have time to fully clean and maintain their toys, or superyachts about to have a refit who want to make sure they are professionally cleaned, dried, packed and stored before yard time.

In this first season SAR have reported that there have been a surprising number of simple maintenance tasks on the books. It seems there are many yachts that have favourite inflatable yacht toys that have sat in storage because they had lost a couple of D rings, or the guide ropes had gone missing. People just didn’t know where to go to get this servicing, parts and maintenance work carried out; but also didn’t want to throw away a product that had given them so much enjoyment.

John Courtney, MD of yachting at FunAir explained, “We are pleased to announce that Sealed Air Repairs will be our official service centre for the Fort Lauderdale and East coast yachting community. Their online parts store is one of a kind and very convenient for people who have misplaced accessories over the years. Their servicing is of the highest quality and we are happy to leave any maintenance tasks that the yachts prefer to outsource, in the capable hands of SAR.”

Mark Anastasia, founder of SAR commented, “ We are excited to be the first mobile service center for yacht toys and have already had an overwhelming response in this first season. From cleaning and servicing top of the range inflatables to make sure they last for years to come, to repairing some of the lower quality items that have found their way into the superyacht sphere, we have been extremely busy since our launch. “

C4C Riders starting at CRUK HQ

Cogs4Cancer 1400km endurance ride for cancer research starts today

Help Cogs4Cancer Make it a Million in 2017 – Current total raised €934,331

Antibes, France

Today 30 keen amateur cyclists who all work in the superyacht industry will leave Cancer Research UK head quarters in London to ride approximately 1400km over 10 days to Antibes, France in aid of raising funds for both CRUK and local French cancer charities.

The team of superyacht Captains and industry professionals have already raised €229,000 this year with the previous three rides in 2013, 2014 and 2015 raising over €700,000. They plan to #MakeItAMillion in 2017 and with your help, break the €1,000,000 Euro barrier.

Cogs4cancer superyacht charity cyclists

As well as supporting the brave riders by donating via the Cogs4Cancer website, you can join the riders on Friday 13th October for the final 60km Tribute Ride from Gréolieres to Antibes, or support the peleton with 10km to go from Port Gallice to the finish line in Port Vauban, Antibes. The final 60km is downhill all the way making it perfect for supporters of all ages who live along the French Riviera. http://cogs4cancer.org/2017-tribute-ride

Port Vauban and the IYCA are gearing up for the arrival of the courageous C4C cyclists who will end their 10 day journey and 1400+ km in the saddle from London to Antibes, on the 13th of October in Port Vauban, Antibes.

Upon arrival at Port Vauban at around 5pm, a Home Coming cocktail will be served in the Bastion St Jaume, and the wonderful Pink Ladies of Gourmet Deliveries will provide a selection of delicious food and drinks. Colgan’s Brewery is also proud to support this open event with a mobile bar; and all money raised at the event will of course go straight to the charity.

Port Vauban who were taken over in January by VAUBAN 21 SAS with shareholders including the Chamber of Commerce, Caisse de Dépôt and Caisse d’Epargne; and over the next 10 years will renew and reclaim Port Vauban as The first Marina in the Mediterranean, and invest an incredible 135 Million Euros to bring Port Vauban and Antibes back to its former glory.

Cogs4Cancer Welcome banner at Port Vauban

Cogs4Cancer would not be possible without the support of many local Yachting companies based along the Cotes D’Azur. As well as sponsoring the Home Coming Event, Gourmet Deliveries provide sustenance and support for both the riders and support crew throughout the 10 day challenge across England and France; and this year will be feeding over 50 people each day without running water or electricity, often serving lunch at the roadside.

Gabi & Helen from Gourmet Deliveries with chefs Ruth & Alan Williams from Ruth William Traiteur will be providing everything the riders and support people will need for this epic journey with 2 vans, ingenuity and of course amazing provisions. Gourmet Drinks & Tobacco EGP are also on board to provide the much needed water and soft drinks for everyone.

C4C 2017 riders first stop in U.K crop

Debbie and Jodi at Marine Medical Antibes are back in the support team again; sharing over 20 years experience and providing an extensive customised medical kit, including defibrillator, oxygen, bandages, splints, medications creams and lotions.

Jodi explained, “Almost everyone has been touched by Cancer in one way or another, and it is great to be in the club of ‘doing something about it’. We have been involved since 2014 providing medical back up during the Ancona-Antibes and Barcelona Antibes rides, we feel honoured to have a role in the C4C charity.

“Being part of this crazy team is a privilege. Every day during the ride there is a situation that will tug at the heartstrings. The wonderful camaraderie amongst the riders and team, never letting anyone get left behind, the encouragement half way up a steep climb, the laughs, the drink and food stops where we all get so well fed and watered and the mandatory joking around at the end of the day makes it very special.”

The riders will also be supported by a team of experienced osteopaths from the European School of Osteopath who will be ‘on hand’ to provide deep tissue treatments and holistic care whenever needed.

Completing the support team, the De Keizer Marine family van will be along for the ride supporting the riders all the way to Antibes. No matter if it’s carrying luggage, helping out, serving drinks, or just giving some moral support. They will also be documenting the journey with their team of photographers. This video from the team explains why they are supporting Cogs4Cancer. Make sure you grab a tissue before you watch. https://vimeo.com/236586661

To celebrate this epic challenge and hopefully raising more than a million Euros for cancer research, there will be an end of ride (and end of season) After Party on Saturday October 14th on the roof terrace at The View Restaurant Club in Juan Les Pins. The party kicks off from 8pm till late. There will be a DJ, Contortionist, Magician, male and female Go Go Dancers and lots more fun to be had, all provided by sponsors Square Foot Storage and GF Entertainment.
