FunAir Loungers beach set up

Unforgettable Beach Days with FunAir at Monaco Yacht Show

In addition to the adrenaline pumping FunAir Yacht Slides, Climbing Walls and other superyacht toys built for action and adventure, FunAir also know exactly how to relax….. In partnership with the beach days theme at the official Captains and Crew Lounge at Monaco Yacht Show this year, FunAir will be launching three new to market products, perfect for an unforgettable superyacht beach experience.

Outside the Lounge on Quay Louis II visitors will be able to find the new Twin Escape floating on the water. Two detachable beach loungers sit on a stable platform that can float out in the shallows to enhance any beach excursion. The Twin Escape is 3.5m x 3m when deployed and comes with their patented Sea Stairs that help you elegantly step right out of the water and onto the relaxing Escape. Perfect for sunbathing, enjoying time with friends, or perhaps a private chat with drinks out on the ocean.

FunAir Twin Escape

If you like to feel the sand between your toes then you can detach the loungers for beach use and pair them with the second new MYS products launch; the Wave Lounger. FunAir have redesigned their superyacht beach lounger and created a unique, ergonomic flow that is stylish, eye-catching and comfortable. The inflatable Wave Loungers take just a couple of minutes to inflate and deflate, and allow crew to pack multiple loungers on even the smallest tender, making beach set up for larger groups quick and easy. The Wave Loungers can be colour customised and have optional luxury fitted covers available through a FunAir partner. They weigh just 10kg and are around 2.2m long and 85cm wide.

FunAir Wave Loungers

For the starfish amongst you the third product launching at MYS gives you even more space to sit back and beach out. The FunAir Daybed is a double width inflatable beach lounger that can accommodate couples in love, a hoard of kids or give those who like to sunbathe in style all the space they need to stretch out and starfish.

FunAir Inflatable Loungers beach set up

The day bed is an easy to lift 17kg and is 230cm long and 158cm wide. Also available in custom colours and with luxury fitted covers. The Wave loungers and Daybed will be on display outside the Captain and Crew Lounge during Monaco Yacht Show on the dock next to the on-water Twin Escape.

Visitors to the show are invited to come and try out the beach set up for themselves and to experience what total beach comfort really feels like. Captains and crew can also chill out on two loungers stationed upstairs in the private crew lounge where they will be complimenting the interior beach themed space.

Dave on his Schiller Water Bike Endurance ride along superyacht route in Norway

Schiller Water Bike Endurance Challenge on Norway Superyacht Route

One Man and his Schiller Water Bike Complete a Record Breaking Journey Along the Norwegian Superyacht Route

Bike A Blue Planet

Endurance adventurer Dave Cornthwaite pedalled an astounding 1243 miles/2090 kilometres along the Norwegian coast, following popular superyacht and famous Hurtigruten ferry route, from Kirkenes to Bergen on his Schiller Water Bike.

His journey lasted for nine weeks, reaching its conclusion in October, and is a record-breaking distance travelled by water bike.

Schiller Bike by Norwegian coastline

© Emma Karembo Taylor

Describing his favourite destinations on this preferred superyacht route, Dave says, “The entire Norwegian coast is beautiful in its own right and the scenery changes every 200 miles or so as I headed south. The rugged, empty northern coast of Finnmark was the most remote part of the trip but I loved the coast of Steigen, which is peppered by an archipelago of thousands of islands, most with sandy white beaches and quiet coves.”

One of many reasons why Norway is becoming an increasingly popular charter destination, with many luxury yacht berths available, and an abundance of outdoor activities on offer amidst the unbeatable scenery.

Dave kitted out his water bike with a custom Schiller inflatable platform, easily strapped to the pontoons at four points, to accommodate the gear he needed to carry with him on his journey.

A Schiller Water Bike can bear weight of up to 900lbs, so there was ample scope for heavier items to be loaded. A handlebar extender was also added to enable Dave to sit upright whilst pedaling the long daily distances, rather than taking the standard ‘racing’ position which is great for your everyday water bike ride.

© Dave Cornthwaite

Averaging an estimated speed of 3.8mph, Dave spent 7-9 hours on the water every day taking in the breathtaking landscapes of Norway and summed up his journey with the following.

Hours on the water: 376.7
Top speed: 10.7mph.
Average speed: 3.5mph (5.6kmph)
Whales seen: 13
Dolphins pedaled with: Over 400
Seals: 250ish
Puffins seen: More than people
Times a Hurtigruten ship travelled between Kirkenes and Bergen while I was pedaling like mad: 13
Films made: 67
No. of times people called me crazy: 654
No. of times people asked if I had bad weather: 786
No. of times I swore I’d never sit on a bicycle seat again: 987
World records? One – longest journey by water bike!
Size of my smile: infinite

This epic journey is number 14 of 25 that Dave will be completing as part of his project ‘Expedition1000’. A different form of non-motorised transport will be used for each adventure, and every one will cover a minimum distance of 1000 miles. Past expeditions have included skateboards, SUP’s and scooters.

Talking of adventure number 15 Dave tells us “I don’t yet have a plan for my next endurance adventure, but am currently resting up and considering creating a film/ book about the Norway trip, and I have a fairly busy speaking schedule around Europe to tell the tale of this journey.

“I live on a boat in London and my Schiller Bike is currently moored alongside, and I take it out for a spin most days. It’s a great way to go shopping and is a regular head-turner for anyone living by the river!”

Dave is victorious in Bergen at the end of his Schiller Water Bike Challenge

As the superyacht industry takes a stop towards sustainability it seems that the Norwegian community are rising to the challenge. It was reported in an article on www.inhabitat.com that Norwegian billionaire Kjell Inge Røkke, a businessman who started his career as a fisherman, has commissioned a yacht purely for marine research. The vessel will be able to scoop up around five tons of plastic every day, and then melt it down in an effort to help clean up the ocean.

The 180m Research Expedition Vessel (REV) will be built by VARD, designed by superyacht designer Espen Oeino and will be ready in 2020. Scientists and marine researchers will be invited on board to study and explore issues such as climate change, overfishing and plastic pollution, according to owner Rosellinis Four-10, a subsidiary of the Røkke family company TRG.

The eco-friendly Schiller Water Bike was developed with the daring belief that people should be able to bike across a blue planet. Designed with state-of-the-art engineering, the Schiller S1-C and S1 are simultaneously revolutionising yachting, water sports and cycling industries, enabling millions of people around the world to have an exhilarating, dynamic and safe biking experience on the water.

This is the next frontier in biking and water sports. One that has no learning curve (or paddles or uncomfortable seating in kayak hulls), and is accessible to all for fun, fitness, touring and adventure on almost any body of water.

With nearly one billion bikes around the globe built for land, Schiller is singularly focused on delivering its customers epic rides, trailblazing voyages and incredible sunset spins on a new aquatic terrain.

FunAir Announces Partnership with Sealed Air Repairs

FunAir Announces Partnership with Sealed Air Repairs Mobile Service Centre for Superyacht Inflatables

Florida
As the global leader in manufacturing inflatable yacht toys, FunAir continue to innovate and ahead of the winter season have announced a partnership with Sealed Air Repairs who opened a Florida based mobile service centre for all inflatable yacht toys earlier this year.

SAR has a mobile service centre that will cover the Floridian coastline offering to pick up your toys and make sure they are clean, dry and ready to inflate the fun, before dropping them back to the yacht. For larger jobs and when working on the biggest inflatables Sealed Air Repairs will collect the product and take it back to their headquarters where the toys can be laid out, inspected and worked on in a clean and secure environment.

The service centers offer a great solution for busy charter yachts who don’t have time to fully clean and maintain their toys, or superyachts about to have a refit who want to make sure they are professionally cleaned, dried, packed and stored before yard time.

In this first season SAR have reported that there have been a surprising number of simple maintenance tasks on the books. It seems there are many yachts that have favourite inflatable yacht toys that have sat in storage because they had lost a couple of D rings, or the guide ropes had gone missing. People just didn’t know where to go to get this servicing, parts and maintenance work carried out; but also didn’t want to throw away a product that had given them so much enjoyment.

John Courtney, MD of yachting at FunAir explained, “We are pleased to announce that Sealed Air Repairs will be our official service centre for the Fort Lauderdale and East coast yachting community. Their online parts store is one of a kind and very convenient for people who have misplaced accessories over the years. Their servicing is of the highest quality and we are happy to leave any maintenance tasks that the yachts prefer to outsource, in the capable hands of SAR.”

Mark Anastasia, founder of SAR commented, “ We are excited to be the first mobile service center for yacht toys and have already had an overwhelming response in this first season. From cleaning and servicing top of the range inflatables to make sure they last for years to come, to repairing some of the lower quality items that have found their way into the superyacht sphere, we have been extremely busy since our launch. “

Monaco Yacht Show Superyacht Tenders and Toys

Monaco Yacht Show launches Tenders & Toys: A new exhibition devoted to superyacht tenders and toys

Visitors to the 2017 Monaco Yacht Show will discover a brand-new exhibition area devoted entirely to the trendiest luxury tenders and water toys on the market.

The creation of the Tenders & Toys zone at the 2017 Show is the MYS’ response to the yachting industry’s goal to attract a new, younger, superyacht clientele. Entertainment is one of the leading criteria in the selection of a yacht to buy or charter with the new generation of superyacht enthusiasts.

Brokerage companies recognize that one of the criteria of a successful charter experience depends on the diversity of the leisure equipment and water toys available on board.

Located on Quai Albert Ier, Tenders & Toys will display fifteen or so tenders on two sites, one on the quay (in the extension of the Dutch HISWA pavilion) and the other on the water (opposite the Car Deck and the Starboard). Yacht owners, skippers and future clients will be able to choose their tenders from among the variety of products on view in Tenders & Toys. A wide range of tenders exists, with different characteristics for different functions – transfer to a marina, beaching on a wilder coastline, a gentle jaunt or a sportier outing – but the trend in the market is towards ever-larger boats offering performance and comfort equivalent to that of superyachts.

Tenders & Toys will thus raise the curtain on the elegant Mazu Yacht Thirtyeight, a 12m open launch for sea-going trips, or the latest Gozzo model from the Italian yard Apreamare, just introduced on 1 September. Maori Yachts will launch its new 17m tender whose ingenious design and superb performance should fulfil even the wildest dreams of its clients.

Cox Marine is coming with its new diesel engine, already hailed as a genuine revolution with a range three times greater than the average for conventional petrol engines. For its first participation in the Monaco Yacht Show Compass Tenders, double prizewinner at the Showboats Design Awards, will be highlighting its expertise in the manufacture to order of one-off tenders for superyachts. As for water toys, Tenders & Toys will present in particular a sea-kart, the new all-carbon version of which will be unveiled at the MYS, an electric surf board, and the very first underwater drone, along with a whole range of nautical accessories and inflatable structures for fun with friends or family.

The new Tenders & Toys zone will complement the range of tenders exhibited for some years already at the Monaco Yacht Show. Visitors can see another 21 tenders afloat on the Quai Jarlan, a private submarine by U-Boat Worx in the Darse Sud Plongeur zone or that of the American manufacturer Triton displayed at the entrance to the Parvis Piscine tent. And of course, two helicopters, the Agusta AW 169 (Tenders & Toys) and Bell Helicopter’s Bell 429 (entrance to the Parvis Piscine tent)!
